Without Fail.

Aug. 12th, 2009 | 09:07 pm

My family is obsessed with that show Wipeout. And every time it's on, without fail, I'll hear my aunt Teresa in the other room alternating between laughing hysterically and saying things like, "oh god!". It always puts a smile on my face and I think it's even better than watching the show.  I love my aunt Terri's laugh. C:

A lucky red hat must have gotten into a load of whites because I now own a bunch of pink undergarments.

Band #4

Jun. 23rd, 2009 | 09:08 pm

Born Ruffians.

I’ve got Katlyn to thank for this one. Riding around with her in Irvine on some of my visits during the school year, I was certain to hear them come up on her iPod. Upon first hearing them I thought, “Hey, this is pretty catchy stuff.” Once I finally got around to downloading them, it became incredibly catchy stuff. Their music is no-nonsense jumpy rock; stuff that happily forces you to at the very least tap your feet and more often than not make you bounce your entire body around. Damn I love these guys.

Driver's License

Jun. 22nd, 2009 | 02:08 pm

I have a really hard time spelling "license." But that's not why I titled this post the way I did, no no no. You see, I got a new driver's license in the mail today! I had this crazy idea in my head that they'd let me take a new picture* for it, but apparently that's not the case. However, apparently I'm now an organ donor. I've got no problem with this, and in actuality it's probably the better thing for me to do, but I don't remember asking to be one. Oh well, assuming someone needs my organs when I finally get shot down by the cops outside the courthouse, it'll all be for the best.

*: I don't look much like my license photo and I think it would save a lot of trouble for cashiers when I'm buying cigarettes if I could re-take my picture.

Band #3

Jun. 21st, 2009 | 02:41 pm

Electrelane.

Again, discovered them because of my brother lending me a new library. The group is comprised of four women from England, and they were active from 1998 through 2007. One of their influences is the Velvet Underground, which is pretty obvious when you listen to them. It’s almost like if The Velvet Underground played a bit faster, a little bit more emotive, and Lou Reed’s voice were an octave higher.

That doesn’t really isn’t fair to Electrelane, though, as they really are their own band. Their album No Shouts, No Calls has been in heavy rotation with me as of late. A lot of their music is purely instrumental, and those songs that are simply aren’t as good as the rest. A good instrumental song doesn’t need any vocals to lift the song up (Explosions in the Sky comes to mind), but the instrumental Electrelane songs sound just sound like normal tracks without any vocals. Does that make sense? It seems pretty nonsensical to me, but whatever. Electrelane is still a really great band.

By the by, If you'd like to listen to one of their songs, peep my Tumblr!

WHOOAA

May. 27th, 2009 | 08:41 am

Let me just compile a list here right quick (in order from first to last):
  • Passion Pit
  • King Khan and the Shrines
  • Animal Collective
  • The Decemberists
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • The Walkmen
  • Aziz Ansari
  • Zach Galifianakis
  • M83
  • Of Montreal
  • Deerhoof
  • Grizzly Bear
  • Santigold
  • Fleet Foxes
  • Silversun Pickups
  • Girl Talk
  • Explosions in the Sky

Worst Act: Passion Pit (They were still pretty good, though)
Bands I'd Never Heard Before Seeing Live: King Khan and the Shrines, The Walkmen, Santigold. (I loved them all.)
Best Act: Of Montreal/Explosions in the Sky. They were both awesome in their own awesome ways.
Coolest Multi-tasker: Aziz Ansari.  After performing a hilarious set in the Comedy tent, he heads over to the main stage to shake maracas on stage with TV on the Radio. This guy is fucking awesome.

Hopefully I will get some pictures up here soon.

ANDREW'S TASTY RECIPE.

May. 19th, 2009 | 12:00 pm

WHAT YOU NEED!
  • A TASTY SLICE OF PITA BREAD. IT MUST BE TASTY!
  • PEPPER JACK CHEESE. IT'S GOTTA BE SPICY!
  • ONE VEGETABLE MASALA BURGER. YOU CAN GET THESE AT TRADER JOES. DELICIOUS.
  • SRIRACHA. FUCK!
WE DOIN' THIS!
  1. PREHEAT A SKILLET. BUTTER UP THAT SKILLET. THIS IS NO PLACE FOR HEALTHY OLIVE OIL! THIS MEAL IS RUUUUUDE!
  2. SLAP THAT MASALA PATTY ON THE SKILLET. MEDIUM HEAT, 3 MINUTES EACH SIDE.
  3. SLICE UP SOME CHEESE WHILE YOU'RE WAITING. COVER HALF OF THAT PITA BREAD WITH SLICED PEPPER JACK CHEESE. YOU SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING, DON'T YOU FUCKER!?
  4. BY THIS TIME YOU SHOULD HAVE FLIPPED THE PATTY OVER. DID YOU!?
  5. TOSS THE PITA BREAD AND CHEESE INTO A MICROWAVE FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS. THIS WILL MAKE THAT SHIT MALLEABLE AND GET THAT CHEESE HALF WAY TO MELTED CITY!
  6. THE BURGER IS DONE! TURN OFF THE HEAT AND USE YOUR SPATULA TO CUT UP THE BURGER INTO LITTLE PIECES. DID YOU SEE THIS COMING!?
  7. DEPOSIT THOSE TASTY MORSELS ONTO YOUR PITA BREAD. LOAD THAT SHIT UP WITH SRIRACHA.
  8. FOLD IT.
  9. EAT IT.
  10. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

In exactly 290 hours I will be somewhere near the California-Oregon border. Awesome.

James Joyce...

May. 5th, 2009 | 07:31 pm

you were just plain dirty.

James Joyce' dirty letters

here's a little sample for everyone to encourage (or discourage) you all to click on this link I provided. (Because, let's face it: We very rarely click on the links our friends send us.):

"You had an arse full of farts that night, darling, and I fucked them out of you, big fat fellows, long windy ones, quick little merry cracks and a lot of tiny little naughty farties ending in a long gush from your hole."

OH GROSS! I'M GONNA BE FUCKIN' SICK.

  • Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak
  • Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
  • Built to Spill - There's Nothing Wrong With Love

  • Beulah - The Coast is Never Clear
  • The Decemberists - Castaways and Cutouts
  • TV on the Radio - Young Liars EP
  • Volta do Mar - At the Speed of Light or Day
  • Ozma - Doubble Donkey Disc

oh my god that isn't even enough. This was too hard.
